Latest and Greatest

It's been a few months since you've last read a blog post from Send Your Best - with good reason! We've been keeping pretty busy, providing support for all of you who need it as always. We also rode over 100 miles with our friends at SocialWish for the NYC Century. But our biggest project to date, and one that we are very excited to share, is our new partnership with the amazing Gilda's Club NYC!

Gilda's Club New York city creates welcoming communities of free support for everyone living with cancer - men, women, teens and children - along with their families and friends. Their innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing support and networking groups, workshops, lectures and social activities, all free of charge.

The club, which was named for Gilda Radner, a great comedian and an original SNL cast member who sadly succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1986, offers a place where anyone who is dealing with the challenges of cancer - as well as their friends and family - can go for emotional support. With our new partnership, the Gilda's Club members now have their own special place to go on the Send Your Best website and interact with each other to find the support they need in a virtual space, in addition to their beloved Clubhouse.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us, as it allows us to support more people than ever..but it also enables us to help promote a really great organization. Check out their upcoming 15th Anniversary Gala on November 18th!

That was some challenge

Hello all, June was a crazy month for us at Send Your Best. We were accepted into the Pepsi Refresh Grant with the possibility of wining $250K.  Okay we did not win but not for the lack of trying and the incredible effort from all the people who support Send Your Best. There seems to be more and more grants being offered by large corporations these days in order to help out smaller do good companies like ourselves. That is great but also make the competition a bit like a popularity contest and what with asking friends, family and fans to vote everyday it can get a bit much. We were able to get the name out there and that is key if we are going to spread the word and be able to help and support people as they deal with any one of life's road bumps (good or bad).

So now it's back to work, back to making Send Your Best as user friendly, helpful and supportive as we can. We have some cool things we are working on over the next few months so stay with us via the blog ( I know you are reading it right now) twitter, or facebook.

Talk to you soon.

Thanks

What Next?

So often when a soldier is injured and then goes through rehabilitation the first thing they want to do is get back with their group. Unfortunately that is not always possible, it could be due to a major injury or any number of things. http://www.missioncontinues.org/ was designed to help these people out by enabling them to serve their country in other ways.

"The Mission Continues was built on the belief that our returning wounded should be recognized not only for the sacrifices they have made, but for everything they have left to give. We award fellowships to empower wounded and disabled veterans to serve in their communities. In doing so, we send the message: "We still need you."  America owes these men and women a great deal, but as a nation, we have much left to learn from them. While injury may have changed the nature of their service, their mission continues, and it is as important as ever".

Anyway check it out I met one of the people involved and I think it's a great cause.

Pepsi Refresh Grant

Great news here at Send Your Best headquarters. We have been accepted and awaiting final approval for the pepsi refresh grant. Pepsi has set up a grant to award companies that help people by offering up to a total of 1.3 Million dollars a month. We have signed up for the 250K grant. We will use the money to finalize the site and make it useful for as many people as possible. Allowing functionality that up till now we had only dreamed of.

Watch this space as we wait to hear more from Pepsi. Once we make it through the final hurdle then we will need to have people vote for us. You can vote everyday for the month. The idea with the most votes wins. It's as simple as that.

fingers and toes crossed.

Marathon anyone?

The LA marathon happend a little while ago and there will be lots more across the country and world for that matter this year. Send Your Best thinks creating a site for a friend or even yourself while you train for a marathon is a cool idea. Think about all the different things that go on for the months of training. What kind of shoes?, what kind of shorts? How do I stop my nipples from bleeding? yes I said it. I used to go and watch the NYC marathon and I can tell you I have seen my share of bleeding nipples from the rub of a t-shirt. Now you can cheer for your friends online.

Their mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts. This site is  Rock N Roll. They are hooked up with musicians, surfers, skaters etc. check them out. If you know any young woman let them know about this site.
